The Secret Life of Actors and How to Become and Industry Powerhouse

If you made it to this page and you are reading these words, then you are officially one of the “brave ones.”

This will make a lot more sense in a bit. See, I wasn’t sure if I should even write this report.

I figured that some of you would be confused at best and think I’m nuts at worst…

But, I just couldn’t help myself because I have to stay true to the mission we have set out for ourselves at Boost My Star, and continue to peel back the curtain and reveal the side of the industry that no one else dares talk about.

If you simply read through this report and do what it says, your acting career could reach stratospheric heights, higher than you ever thought possible and much faster than you ever thought possible.

Here’s why…

It all started at Barnes and Noble, a place that has been on the endangered species list for quite some time but is miraculously still around.

I’m a bit of an old school character in many respects, and I still enjoy browsing the stacks much more than flipping pages on the Kindle store, so I am grateful for the few brick and mortar book stores still around.

You know how things sometimes just align exactly the right way and it’s almost as if there is a message coming to you?

This was one of those times. I didn’t go there looking for it.

In fact the book was out of place and it literally jumped out at me. As I reached for a different title, it landed at my feet.

I looked at the cover intrigued, wondering why a book from several decades ago was still in print and had prime shelf space here.

I grabbed it along with the other title and headed for a chair in a quiet corner. I don’t know why, but I felt sort of embarrassed to even be reading this and I only even grabbed the other book to sort of use it as a shield so no one could see what I was reading.

I sat in that lumpy chair and read the book from cover to cover and it was one of the most impactful things that I have done all year.

Every actor needs to read this book and in fact it should be required reading for every human being.

The book I’m talking about is “The Secret Life of Plants.”

You have probably never heard of it, and while I don’t want to spoil it for you, here’s what you have to know about it.

The book is about a series of experiments performed on plants that revealed some really strange things.

The contents of the experiments are so controversial that many academics have said that the book should be regarded as fiction, rather than factual scientific research.

Regardless, while some of the claims have been debunked and some of the experiments have been proven flawed and not replicable, it’s important to note that not all of them have.

This is where you and your acting career come in…

In the book, the researchers talk about such outlandish topics like Plant-sentience, basically stating that plants have feelings and can experience emotions.

In one experiment, they talk about plants experiencing fear and I have to admit, there were times when I was convinced a Demogorgon (Netflix’s Stranger Things reference) was going to jump out of the pages at me.

Let me be clear on this, whether you or I or anyone believe in the “findings” is irrelevant.

The book makes for a great read, especially for actors.

The conclusion drawn is that plants are a far more complex organism than we realize and they have vast implications for the way our world operates. They are not merely spectators in our game of life. They are active players.

What you need to realize as an actor is that the industry is a living, breathing organism too. It is not a mere spectator, it is shaping your career at every moment.

After reading a few crazy pages, I forced myself to be open minded and ask “what if this were true?”

What if everything I thought I knew was completely wrong?

That kind of mentality is what it takes to build a career in the entertainment industry.

We have always been told that you have to be the best and most talented to be “discovered.”

We were told that you have to pay your dues and that one day your time will come.

Your agents and managers will book you, so you just focus getting better at your craft and become the best actor you can be, so that when opportunity knocks you can kick that door wide open and seize it!

We were told that too.

Forget about the plant book.

In our case, we see evidence to the contrary all around us every day, yet most actors can’t see it or don’t want to see it.

This is the best of times for the industry but it can also be the worst of times.

This is where that open mind comes in. What if everything you thought you knew about the industry was incorrect?

What if the “big 4 networks” were no longer ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox, and instead they were now Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter?

What if studios had to pour hundreds of millions of dollars into a production, and tens of millions more into promoting a film just to sell a few million movie tickets opening weekend, while a 20 something year old guy with a GoPro and a YouTube channel can rack up 20 million views [tickets] on his conspiracy theories documentary in a single day?

What are the implications of that?

I say that it can be the worst of times for the industry because, we are in a time when we are no longer beholden to the networks and studios and that means taking personal responsibility for the outcome of your career.

You don’t need to be “discovered” and given your big break.

To everyone on the outside, the industry is an endless parade of glamorous outings, premieres, and red carpet events.

To those truly trying to make it in the industry, the reality is more like 15 hour days, plus your day job, and going months without knowing if you will ever work again.

At least that was the old model…

But, again, what if this were no longer true and things were different now?

It is possible to make a Quantum Leap from where you are now, and start reaping the rewards of the career you have been aspiring to for so long.

You just have to figure out were you fit into the ecosystem of the industry. For an ecosystem to be in a healthy balance, there has to be a proper amount of input and output.

Most actors are simply looking to extract everything they can from the industry without ever thinking about what they can add to it.

The industry is starving for attention and it thrives on actors who have a genuine personality.

Here’s how I can help with the attention.

When you can build a well of attention and point it at the industry, the law of reciprocity states that it has to give something back to you.

This is why you see so many YouTubers and Instagrammers popping up in mainstream projects. They are feeding the industry’s ecosystem with what it needs.

The secret to becoming an absolute industry powerhouse with more bookings and opportunities than you even know what to do with is to do the same.

What it wants from you is to be an actor that can bring something to the table and the best thing you can bring is your social media platform, because that is the attention the industry so desperately craves.

Along with that, it is more important than ever to have a stellar industry reputation.

Here’s a quick fix for both of those.

Everything in an ecosystem has its purpose and plays a role in keeping it in a healthy balance. If you think of the industry this way, you must consider where you fit into it.

You have to carve out a little corner for yourself and dominate that purpose. You can’t just be another actor, because there is already an abundance of them and the ecosystem that is the industry has a way getting rid of the excess doesn’t serve it.

So, over the next few weeks I’m going to be sharing with you exactly how to carve out your own space in the industry, make a name for yourself, and give you the practical step by step methods to create your own ecosystem within the industry.

Opportunity will then flow to you with endless abundance. However, you have to build your career on a solid foundation. That’s why I created this for you.

People often ask why any of us at Boost My Star are so willing to help actors, given that Hollywood is so competitive. If we top level the industry, everybody wins!

That’s why our goal is to…

See you at the top,
Scott
